A Change in Plans for Play
Since August 2, 2022, when Grace officially adopted Play (JC Shecanflatoutplay), the goal was for the two of them to compete at the 2023 Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover. However, plans do not come with certain guarantees. Recently, Grace decided a change in plans was in Play’s best interest.
In Grace’s own words:
I have some bad news about RRP. Today is the final day to commit to going. After a lot of thought and some serious training over the last two weeks, I have decided Play won’t be ready to properly and confidently compete. I am so bummed.
She’s my forever horse, and I just don’t see the point in pushing her for the show. She has come SO far, but there are still so many little things that send her into a bit of a tizzy. I really need to focus on building her confidence.
Pushing her so that I could start taking her to horse shows and off the property to get her ready just wouldn’t be what’s best or fair for her. I obviously only ever want to do what’s in her best interest. I’m so sad, but I know in my heart I’m doing the right thing for Play. That’s always going to come first.
For us, the horse always comes first. Play is not ready for the Thoroughbred Makeover, and that is fine. She already has earned her happily ever after with Grace. Anything above and beyond that is a bonus!
